Oh man I haven’t seen one of those in a long time. I used to use one, or at least an earlier model in my Protege in high school. That would have been about 8 years ago though.

I have one. It does the job, but it’s obviously nowhere near as good as a hard connection.

I just bought one of these for the Golf. It lacks a bit in bass, but it’s fine, and I can play it in the house. It cost close to $100, though.

I had one of those for my 2006 ipod nano.. It worked great.. lasted longer than the ipod did. Some times in traffic you could pick up other peoples music- usually just changed the channel and it was good again.

You been digging under the seat in my old Saturn ION? Had one for about 4yrs. Worked pretty good. Better clarity on the higher frequencies. You can change the frequency for the buttons if I remember correctly. It was a cheap solution to not having an aux jack and not wanting to spend the cash to put in a new head.

Haha throwback! I would say that is one of the better wireless RF modulators out there, but that is not saying much. What type of car are you looking to use it in? I’d go for something hard wired.

I tried several FM transmitters, both wired and Bluetooth, since my ‘05 Grand Cherokee lacks an aux jack. Most of them were crap. I ended up spending more than I planned on a GoGroove FlexSmart X2 mini. It was like 45 bucks but the first one I found where I could get a nice static-free signal.

I had one, it was decent. My job at the time required me to drive to a lot of obscure places so I frequently had to change the station, but I always found one that worked, and usually worked well.
Curiosity, do you have a cassette player in your car? If so, there are a lot of bluetooth casette adapters on the market.

I have one that has a 30-pin connector instead of an aux jack; it works just fine.

My GF uses one of these:

works quite well. one of the best sounding wireless FM mods i’ve ever used actually. strong signal, will even blank out adjacent stations.

Do you connect with a cable or Bluetooth?

In my experience, sending music over BT always exacts a significant cost in terms of sound quality. Beats headphones are a prime example of that.

That’s what I’d prefer, but this is so easy... My daughter uses the car so a big worry about sound quality wouldn’t matter that much as she isn’t picky.

Any FM transmitter like this is going to be a compromise in sound quality. I like the bluetooth convenience. In theory a wired one could sound better but the couple wired ones I tried had a crap FM signal full of static. A wired connection to the phone might give better sound quality than bluetooth, but that doesn’t matter if the FM signal from the transmitter to the car sucks.

I used one of them in my old truck for years. Held up well and always had decent quality.

I own it. Its crappy. Got it for my old A4 many years ago and used it on only two road trips. Had a disc changer in the car and went back to burning CDs instead. Back in the day I found many cassette adapters had better sound quality than most FM transmitters.

I’ve had good results with cassette adapters, but the cassette player has died in this radio. I’d install an aftermarket radio, but my daughter uses the car — and wore out the cassette player with cassettes she bought at thrift stores — and lives in a sketchy area with lots of hippy meth-heads.
